Front Cover Layout

Front cover 1 - This front cover is following the codes and conventions of magazines as it has the title in the top left hand corner of the music magazine. This is important as a title is the first thing that grabs the readers attention, especially if the music magazine has a catchy title. I have put the issue number and price underneath to inform the reader right away. I have put the main image on the left to forground it under the title and then would have the text to the right of it and wrapped round the picture. This is very simple as it has a clear difference between the image and text however it could look a bit text heavy or image heavy on each side. I have also seperated the main features and other regular contents cover lines as they both attract different groups of readers. For example the main feature, although it will also attract existing readers, it will aim to bring new readers to the magazine as they may be interested in the main feature especially if it is exclusive. On the other hand, the other regular contents are on their own as this will attract to existing readers as this is what they will want to see as they will have confidence that these contents will always be here. Although I like this layout as it is simple and clear I think the regular contents do not need to be on the front cover, as the existing audience will already know they are going to be in the magazine as they have brand loyalty therefore will have knowledge that they are going to be there. I have isolated the pug in the top right hand corner as it is important that this stands out as it will be advertising something in particular.

Front cover 2 - This front cover firstly follows the codes and conventions of a music magazine as it has the title in the top left hand corner. This works well as the magazines name must be prominant and must be at the top as sometimes in the shops magazines sit in front of one another so you must be able to see the name at the top at all times. I have also included the issue number and price underneath. The price must also be visible because it can determine whether somebody buys the magazine or not as they a price can be attractive and equally put somebody off. I have put the heading and subheading just underneath this as it is what is going to introduce the main story and I would like to do a catchy or controversial heading to get the readers attention. This is the same as the coverlines and regular contents on the opposite side. For example, the regular contents is what existing readers will look out for therefore they will have comfort in seeing these on the front cover as they know they will be included in the magazine. And other contents will help as, if the main feature does not attract the readers attention the other contents is what they will look at next so this must be equally as eye catching and interesting. I am also including a pug in the bottom left hand corner, this will be related to the main feature for example, a free download of the featuring artists music. And also a pug in the top right hand corner which will be more general to the magazine, or another feature for example a free poster or a subscribe now offer. For the main image I had ideas of using a woman with a guitar and I'd have her head flung to the left so that the main feature heading and the other articles can be wrapped around the picture, so that the image is forgrounded to attract attention but at the same time the contents is clear.

Front cover 3 - This is my favourite choice of front cover as it looks creative however is clear at the same time. I have started with keeping the title in the top left hand to continue to follow the codes and conventions of magazines. I have moved the issue number and price towards the barcode as this will allow me to foreground the title and main heading without it looking cluttered in the top corner. I have put a pug on its own in the top right hand corner and have isolated it so that it stands out and looks clear as it will be advertising something within or for the magazine. I have put the main heading and main feature together so that the reader is aware of exactly what the main content is so it'll attract them to buy the magazine. I have however missed a pug in the bottom left corner therefore am going to put one in that is featured around the main article, for example a free download of the music trap of the main featuring artist. The main image are going to be of the main artist. She will be holding an electric guitar and have her head swung to the left so that the text can be wrapped either side of the image as it will be a very distinct shape. I have put the barcode and price in the bottom right corner as this also follows the codes and conventions of a magazine.
